Internship - [IT] Improvement of the speech signal

The human voice represents the most natural communication means to interact with a robot. This is why we pay particular attention to Nao’s speech recognition capabilities. In order to make the embedded technology of our robot as efficient as possible, it is necessary to isolate the speech signal from the main speaker. It means to rebuild the same signal as the one which could be picked up directly from the mouth in a “standard” locution situation.
To achieve this goal, it is necessary to reduce the distortions caused by the reverberations, the other speakers, the surrounding noises (urban, domestic) and also the noise produced by the robot itself (motors, etc.). To realize this signal improvement, we will use the available microphone array and the production models (physical, statistic) of the speech.
During your internship, you will have to implement state of the art algorithms of speech enhancement and noise cancellation. You will also have to suggest possible improvements.
The trainee will have to take the inherent robotics constraints into account (real-time, reduced cost of measurement).

Mission
Extracting the speech signal from a noisy multichannel signal.

Profile
Engineering school / Master – Final internship.

Requirements
- Engineering school (last year) and/or Master; specialized in the audio, signal processing or robotics fields.
- Good command of C++ and encoding of real-time signal processing algorithms
- OS: Linux or Windows
- Reading of English scientific articles
- Interested in robotics, autonomous, creative and inventive
